Exploring the subterranean expanse in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom provides players with essential abilities and unique story progression. The main quest titled A Mystery in the Depths introduces players to key mechanics while navigating through darkness. Completing this quest unlocks powerful tools that significantly streamline crafting and building across Hyrule.
Prerequisites and Starting the Quest
Before initiating this mission, players must complete at least one regional phenomenon quest and unlock the camera feature with Josha at Lookout Landing. Returning to Lookout Landing allows you to speak with Josha, who tasks Link with investigating statue alignments underground. Preparing brightbloom seeds and light sources before diving into the chasm will make your journey much safer.
Descending through the central Hyrule chasm leads directly into the gloom-covered Depths. Following the gaze of sequential stone statues directs you straight toward the abandoned Great Central Mine. Navigating careful routes prevents unnecessary damage from gloom-infected enemies along the way.
Unlocking the Autobuild Ability
Upon reaching the Great Central Mine, interacting with the central terminal triggers the acquisition of the Autobuild ability. This iconic power allows Link to instantly recreate past Zonai vehicle structures using nearby materials or Zonaite currency. Master Construct constructs stationed at the site will demonstrate the feature to ensure you understand its core functions.
Shortly after acquiring the ability, an unexpected encounter with Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan initiates a boss battle. Defeating Kohga requires dodging his vehicles and striking when he becomes temporarily vulnerable. Winning the battle grants valuable schematic prints and opens further exploration opportunities in the underground world.
Reporting Back and Quest Rewards
After securing victory and learning Autobuild, travel back to Lookout Landing using the nearby Surface shrine. Speaking to Josha completes the quest parameters and grants access to additional Zonai schematic rewards. This milestone opens up smoother exploration mechanics for all subsequent adventures above and below ground.
